This is developing into quite a thread and wandering of topic however I'll join in.
When you are teaching you are either telling your pupil what you would do at each stage phase 1 or watching the pupil to see they do what you would do at each stage phase 2.
For example if you are doing phase 2 junctions, "Joe bloggs take the next road on the left please" First you want the pupil to look for the junction and then check mirrors so watch them do it, if they dont tell them, ask them why ? ask them the consequences ? provide the fix etc. If they check there mirrors next they should signal, if they dont tell them, ask them why etc. Next there position, then there speed and gear, then the Look stage and finally the mirror checks in new road . It really is that simple.
If you use prompt cards and fault sheets you need to take your eyes off the SE pupil to look at them in the mean time hes gone off on one and you have lost control.
Apply to any situation you encounter. Whilst driving you see a meeting situation, if it was you driving what would you do ? So watch your pupil and see they do what you would do. This scenario in phase 1 then tell them what they must do, Talk through.
All of the subjects in the PST's you know how to tackle as a driver, you have proved this passing part 2. Just apply the above and its a good starting point. This is why commentry driving is such a great tool when doing your part 2 gets you looking further a head and develops your skills for talk through.

nice post chris
i would add with a phase 2, as things are progressing nicely..... be looking for that little extra.....
so how does that parked car in the distance affect how you are going to deal with this? or
what can you see in the distance that will affect your driving (encouraging anticipation)
filtering the norm.... and encouraging looking for stuff that will affect safety or that demonstrates they are thinking ahead
